New Dragon head ...advise on horns
Ok I'm poping out of lurking to ask for some advise on making good looking horns for my dragon head. I found a bit of awsome furr that inspired the idea fo this particular head. (Purple with black scales.) I'm planing on giving him horns and a beak-ish tip for his mouth and finishing off with a lion like mane.

I origonally planed a moving jaw but after to may failures I just scratched it and went with a static jaw.

'What Mastodon lacks is a singer with a recognizable voice, which is the sort of thing that can make a metal band actually popular. (Both singers get the complicated imagery across mostly through roaring and barking.) But this might not matter. Warner Brothers signed Mastodon in the hopes of pointing it at indie-rock audiences as well, and the band will have to hang on to its credibility.

“If we get in there and infiltrate,” Mr. Dailor said, “we can maybe start to change things. If we get away from preaching to the choir, maybe then there’s a chance that kids will go into their bedrooms and learn ‘Capillarian Crest.’ I mean, think of King Crimson, Rush, Yes. Those bands thrived in the 70’s.”

Mr. Hinds, on his second beer, was less optimistic. “I don’t know how viable we are for the kids,” he drawled. “We’re more a grown man’s type of music.”'

And I get to see them in four days.

    $1,000 later
I have my car back, and as I knew..it needed a whole slew of parts! I figured that the engine fan went kaput, that was one of the expensive parts. Same with the water pump. It was also due for a timing belt change. Not to mention the thermostat, temp sensor and coolant. Hopefully this will be the last big expense that I have for awhile O.o Sucks that the whole repair was pricey! Could of been worse I guess.

    Tails
What is the best way to make a tail? Just any tail in general. I've been cutting my pattern and then flipping it so I have to pieces and then sewing them together. I'm made some pretty wacky shapes but I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it. Does anyone else make them like this, or do you do them differently? If so would you mind commenting on how you make YOUR tails? Many thanks. :3

    Friday afternoon temporal anomaly...
I have 45 minutes left at the office this afternoon and it's killing me! I cannot wait to leave, for whatever reason. I'm feeling the sort of time dilation I expect from LSD - except with none of the other really fun effects! Gah!

However, I just got another really fantastic, sexy text message from a good friend! Seems to be the month for it. Thanks, puppy. :)

    Thanks Lufthansa.
I'm off to Austria for a few days (biz) on Sunday, but thanks for a looking labor strike at Lufthansa (my Frankfurt to Austria connection) I've had my return flight on Friday completely screwed up. I'm now going to be coming back on the 7:30pm-arrival flight...

Which means its not looking like I'm going to be able to hit Michigan next weekend with some of the folks here (though I've got a ton of meetings booked that following week anyway).

Frustrating and I feel awful for having to cancel on folks.

I'll be headed to Vancouver-SFO and then Ottawa on my whirl-wind business and other trip starting August 7th in Vancouver.

    Friday
This week has passed by at about the expected pace. My legs are still sore and I've just gotten back from fishing, again, at the usual location of some culverts so as to allow for car travel. It's really amazing how the fish here will go after most any kind of lure I've tossed in, yielding some easy fried lunch. They say you shouldn't eat too many fish out of these lakes, due to heavy metal contamination. There's precautions aboutany things these days, from cellphones causing cancer to soy products resulting in sterility. Oh well, regardless, it was a tasty fish.

One more day of this, and maybe I'll actually keep routinely checking LJ after this as opposed to going back to my "quarterly posting."

I suppose if I wanted to be possitive, I could remark on the pleasent temperature out here, but to be honest, the weather in Flodida never bothered me to begin with. But, oh well, flight is in one leg departing at 5pm. So it's around 5 hours if driving, 3 hours of flying, then I'm home by the evening.

Maybe I'll keep up reading in long sittings as well when I get back, but we'll see if the temptation to stay online just IMing is too much to maintain any productivity. Also, around two weeks to go until I get my flight to Manitoba... really need to finalize plans. I've got the funds, just need to know where I'll be staying and all.

I really can't wait to be out of here as well. Bring holed up in a room for 18 hours at a time is sounding really nice right about now.

What to use for Squirrel tail
Since the obvious choice would've been Rust Fox Fur and that one being discontinued, what would you suggest I use to make a squirrel tail still look like a squirrel tail?

I beleive part of the solution is in the pattern (for which I'm also open to suggestions) but do you think I could get away with a shorter than 3" pile? The red fur I have right now is more like 1"... I'd need to find something to match it but still look as if a lil longer...

I make an announcement about what?
    Okay...I make an announcement about.....what?

    It's CONFUZZLED!!!

That's right! [info]calihusky wants me to go to CF after I watched [info]bigbluefox's 2008 CF videos. It looked like it was fun there!

Why? Because my British furiends want me to go to CF next May, 2009 and have fun!

I'll go to Manchester, England on May 21st until 26th.

It will be my second European trip (EF in Suhl, Germany this year and CF in Manchester, England next year).

I will decide to skip FurFright or MFF next year cuz of that. :P *Saves more money* (>.<)

Are you excited about me who'll go to CF next year or what?

    Miscellaneous Qs
    Hey everyone :D

Well, my half-suit/partial (paws/tail/shirt) is almost done. It's been going in bits and pieces 'cause of my hectic work schedule and PC blowing.

What I've done is I've made the handpaws, and since it's a long pile fur (and I'll be working on the registers at work and moving around like crazy on Halloween before the children come by for treats in our community), I made the paws removable at the wrists and made sleeves that go nearly up to my armpits, which are also removable from the shirt itself. This way, if I overheat at work, I can take the fur-shirt off and throw on a short-sleeved shirt, and I'll have my paws/lower arms/mid-arms covered, so I won't spoil the illusion. I only have a few things left to get done...

    Question time!

    1) Ears. I have a short-haired purple wig and long, narrow furry ears that I made. I'd like to attach them via fishing line. Is this doable? How would I make the clasp for them to stay/tie on at the back of my head? I've seen this method with some costume horns at stores before around Halloween. I'd be adding poseable wire inserts into the ears to make 'em stand up straight if fishing line would work. Otherwise, should I just try a slim headband and attempt to hide it with some scrap fur?

    2) Cooling. I have a spandex (or is it lycra? Can't recall offhand) unitard that I can wear underneath the fur-shirt. Now, with an AC on medium/6 temp control in 80 degree weather and without the unitard thing, I heat up within 10 minutes. I'm planning on making a vertical slice (since it's long fur, it'll hide it) and install a zipper or velcro (I'm thinking zipper, since I'll be moving a lot) in the side for easy on/off, since I'll have a wig, makeup, and all sorts of latex prosthetics on.

So how long, with ample water provided (I usually go through a 1.5 liter bottle in 5-7 hours at work normally), would fursuiters wisely be able to wear a fur-shirt with cool cotton/summer-weight pants on? I'm trying to figure out how long I can safely wear it before it's time to swap out of it and into the shirt. Character-wise, it would look like my character went from being shirtless to having a shirt on, so there's no worries there. :)

    3) Hooves! I just had the -awesome- PunkCat of this community make me my first 'suit commission- a pair of gorgeous, clydesdale style-tufted cloven hooves for Versin. :) They were built on a pair of 2" tall high heels.

So here's another Q: Should I wear 'em around the house to 'break them in' like with normal walking/running shoes, or is that a no-no with high heels? Also, I'll be on even ground inside the store and on red brick sidewalks when I'm not- can anyone give me some experience stories about hooves so that I can better prepare myself for it, as well as how long feet can last in high heels before you get excruciating pain? I've got a pair of furry, 'normal' footpaws I made (as shown in previous entries) for when I need to switch out of 'em, but I'd like to wear Punk's hooves as long as I can! They're full of awesome.

Once everything's completed I'll post up pics of the final. I'm missing a fursuit head (broke!), but using latex appliances to cover for that and enable better flexibility for my job when I work or whenever I suit up.

    Thanks so much, everyone. :)

Nintendo facing patent lawsuit over DS.
Illinois man claims to have touched first.

Thanks to its innovative design and wealth of fantastic games, the Nintendo DS has scrambled to the top of the handheld gaming war, making the hardware wizards at Nintendo the darlings of the games industry.

But what if they don't hold the patent on the touchy tech?

As reported by video game blog Gamepolitics, John R. Martin has filed a complaint alleging that he owns the patent on the system's lauded touch screen. While the patent was updated in August of 2005 -- a full six months after Nintendo launched the DS -- it was originally filed a decade earlier in 1995.

The patent seems to cover the key input ingredient of Nintendo's popular handheld, citing "an improved method of operating a touch screen on a CRT or ICD computer screen [that] uses finger release as input registering" in "an electronic game device system [which] is switchable between an amusement mode and a gaming or gambling mode and is useful for vehicles such as airplanes or boats..."Sounds a little like the DS to us, minus the gambling bit.

Nintendo, however, doesn't see the connection -- the company has responded by requesting that the entire suit be summarily dismissed.

This isn't Nintendo's first scrape with patent infringement. Earlier this year the company coughed up $21 million to tech company Anascape over several Nintendo game controllers, including their famous Wavebird, widely considered the first legitimate wireless game controller.

    Review, Nomar Tire Balancer
Okay, I bought this static balancer a few months back, and today I did a front tire change and took it out to balance the tire.

According to the balancer, my tire is perfectly balanced.

Now this may be true, I seem to recall I didn't have to use any weights with my Avon's, and the Battleaxes only used a half ounce.

But I do know one thing, they claim their balancer is accurate to 1/16th of an ounce.

Well it isn't. it's pretty accurate to 1/4 of an ounce, and somewhat accurate at 1/8th of an ounce (and that's after a liberal shot of wd 40 to the bearings and I had to play with it a while). But 1/16th? Not a chance. I'm not sure that I'd trust it at 1/8th.

I did take the bike out and test it, the tire seems well balanced and there were no vibes up to the buck, and no head shake on decel, so I'm fairly sure it's nicely balanced. But it took longer than it should have and the wheel does not spin as freely on the balancer as it should if it were truly sensitive to 1/16th of an ounce like they claim.

Sadly I'm stuck with it now, it's a bit too late to send it back and calling them on the phone was kind of worthless. They really didn't have any suggestions to fix it, I suspect that the bearings they used on it just aren't sensitive enough. I'll see about shelling out the money to replace the bearings, hopefully then it will perform to spec, for a hundred bucks I'm not sure I can really complain, but I am disappointed.

This week, I have been mostly...
    ...getting a payrise yay!

Had my review on monday. Wasn't exactly exemplary, or however you spell that word, so I only got the standard payrise rate, but still. Better than no payrise at all. Hopefully even if we do settle into a recession in this country, our company shouldn't do too badly. They sailed through the last one, as did my last company, and they do a lot of the same stuff.

Done sod all this week though. Both tuesday and thursday I ended up doing overtime at work, and fuck am I tired right now. Shattered when I went to bed last night, but it was so humid and sticky I just couldn't get to sleep. Bloody typical, eh? So right now I'm having the 'zombie experience'. Work is gonna be painfully slow and boring today...... :'(

Picked up new lights and bar ends for the g-ride. I rode the trails tonight, starting at 8:30 p.m., and rode the entire 23 miles with only one of two lights on. <3  Both wide and narrow on at the same time just makes it obscene.

Otherwise I also made a repair stand out of PVC. Although I am going to replace the holding tube because it's ghetto rigged to all hell, the stand does its job. Found the design on a DIY page; saved myself $80+  :D

    Hiding a zipper?
I'm going to be sewing my bodysuit up tomorrow or the next day, or at least at some point in this week, but I'm having a major issue on how to cut the pattern out for a "hidden" zipper type entry-not sure if I should leave more fur on one side of the seam, or whatever. o_o

Links to how to set up a hidden zipper is also great, considering I've never done it before. (diagrams are preferred, since I'm quite brain-dead currently.)
